Santos Hereford Ranch: Ranch History

"If you can't figure out your purpose, figure out your passion.  For your passion will lead you right into your purpose." (Bishop T.D. Jakes)

In 1985, John and Susan Santos purchased the first two Polled Hereford females from Dr. Irene Collins.  The heifers were named Irene and Rose and would become the foundation to Santos Hereford Ranch.

When their son Derek wanted to show at the local county fair, they decided to start their Hereford herd.

Having been raised with livestock his whole life, there wasn't anything John could not do; from all aspects of herd's welfare to artificial insemination.  If John had to call a vet, then there was something truly wrong!  One of his greatest strengths was to remain calm in any situation.  He used to say that if you got upset and lost your temper - the animal would feel it and become even more difficult to handle.

Over the years, Santos Hereford Ranch has seen many successes in and out of the showring.  In maintaining a small herd - the focus on genetics becomes extremely important.  Every champion we've won with has been a product of our breeding.  That passion has carried on to our success each and every year.

John Santos grew up on Grade A Dairy farm in Gustine, CA.  Later the family move the dairy to Turlock, CA.  Even though he made his living on the dairy farm, his passion belonged to the Hereford breed.
